Recognition - 030

  • Since he started it in 2000, Jacek Sienkiewicz' Warsaw-based Recognition label has more or less acted as his private platform, with other producers only appearing in the catalogue infrequently. The A1 of his newest record for the imprint—number 30—vaguely recalls Lucio Aquilina's 2007 hit "Magic M." Like "Magic M," the low-end in "030" is somewhat reluctant to stay put, bouncing erratically around. But it's the track's midpoint breakdown which bears the most resemblance, dainty twinkles suddenly appearing to pirouette over claps and hats. The rest is saturated with joyous golden strings, nice but ultimately lacking the complexity to be continuously exciting. On the flip, "130" and "230" feel less like songs, and more like tools. The former keeps a low and slightly tense profile, moving forth with jitters of digital static and an insistent organ loop. The latter relies heavily on typical dubby sounds, weaving swirling veils of chords together over understated drums.
