Herbal Infusion - The Hunter

  • Herbal Infusion return to the scene on Bedrock Records with a re-release of their classic ‘The Hunter’. Originally released on Zoom Records in 1992, ‘The Hunter’ made appearances on a multitude of mixed compilations back in the 90’s. There is no denying it was a classic back in the day, so much so that Bedrock felt it needed a re-release with an additional Steiger mix by Simon Rogers. The classic Original Herbal Cub Mix is on the a-side. Some nicely arranged drums begin the track with the vocal sample shortly following. A big chunky baseline then dominates the arrangement, and then of course the vintage melodic sounds of that early 90’s Renaissance sound soon filters into the track. Soon enough the track has that classic feel to it, and although it may sound a little dated, it still definitely sounds good. Definitely life left in this 10+ year old tune. On the flip of course is the Steiger mix. The mix is a juiced up modern version of the original. The vocal sample is used nicely early on and as with the original, the deep and chunky baseline takes control of the production. The baseline rolls along nicely with vocal samples, effects and subtle melodies from the original floating around the track. The remix is very impressive. It modernises the baseline of the original noticeably and gives the track a more intense pace then the more relaxed original. Not a bad release here at all. The Steiger mix will appeal to the upfront junkies while the classic Herbal mix will no doubt bring back many memories for some, and will please those who believe that they just don’t make music like they used to.
