Porter & Blaine - Surrounding Darkness

  • Steve Porter & Aaron Blain team up on Source of Gravity to deliver 2 unique selections. There is no denying at the moment that anything Steve Porter touches is most probably going to turn into gold. His remixes of Amber did the job for Bedrock, and he has works due on Made and Sander K’s new forthcoming label, truly making Steve a targeted man at the moment. These track with Aaron should indicate why, especially the intriguing a-side. Surrounding Darkness is on the a-side and it begins in stylish fashion with whispering vocals and an intriguing piano line. Slow beats follow that introduce the main drum pattern that unites with a deep and roaring like baseline. The breakdown midway is quite stunning. It features some beautiful piano construction as well as a delicate drum arrangement. The atmospheric strings help create a unique and medieval atmosphere for a lack of a better word, as the drums and deep and dark layers soon come back into the production. A very unique production this one, and a very good one more importantly. On the flip is Thunkin Brother. This track chugs along with another deep and funk edged baseline, combined with a large array of rippling effects and unique sounds ringing around the production. The track maintains a smooth flow and is more of a mid set filler; not quite as unique and intriguing as its brother on the flip. A release that fans of Mr Porter should definitely seek to listen to. The unique nature of Surrounding Darkness especially should really excite those looking for elements that are rare in dance music these days.
