Cassegrain - Tiamat

  • 2012 was a watershed year for Prologue. The Munich label released the excellent Voices From The Lake album, Dino Sabatini's superb, yet slightly overshadowed Shaman's Path and a run of solid 12-inches. In February of this year, they put out a soundscape project, The First Contact, by Notfromearth, but they now shift their focus back towards the dance floor with a double 12-inch from Cassegrain. For their third release for Prologue, Alex Tsiridis and Hüseyin Evirgren suspend their recent pursuit of experimental scores and return to the tunneling techno that brought them to prominence. "Taiga" pairs the driving subterranean sounds of 2010's Dropa EP with a backdrop of droning industrialism, lined by skeletal pulses and fractured claps. The equally doom-laden "Joule" and "Turn Aside" both press harder, with the latter overdriven to a point of rupture. The title track ups the ante again, scaling a siren over an amassing field of noise, while "Task" and the dubbier "Ignite" are more obscure excursions into the doldrums of techno.
