Sandrow M - Prayervan EP

  • Dresden's Uncanny Valley continues its eclectic, entertaining approach to house with local lad Sandrow M's debut 12-inch. The lead track is less strict 4/4, more smoky, vocal pop, dusted with jazzy electric piano, wobbly synths and a coconut shell gallop. "Facerunner" couldn't be more different—trippy house that folds back into itself like a Gordian knot. It's the sort of thing that might float DJ Harvey's cosmic boat. It's a mood partly replicated by the standout track, "Gonna Make." With a looped vocal sample of the title studding almost all of its six minutes, Sandrow lays down elegant chords, old-school hi-hat attacks and some Cameo-style funk synths. As with the previous track, "Schnaubi" has its sun-flecked synths offset by a jagged slo-mo rhythm that suggests a producer with a love for early hip-hop drum patterns. It closes out an EP targeted at a deeper, less frenetic dance floor.
