Todd Osborn - 303/909

  • The latest release from Detroit producer Todd Osborn shows him turning in two concise cuts that are perfectly in turn with the analogue ethos of Jared Wilson's 7777 label. The spines of these tracks were made on the hallowed Roland machines after which they were named; Osborn has long demonstrated a keen mastery of both in his solo work and his TNT productions with Tadd Mullinix. "303" is a consummately realised acid workout, laying dark bass synths over spare percussion in a well-trodden but compelling style. "909," meanwhile, is far more house than acid, its sunny, toothsome melody throwing irrepressible shapes around urgent, skittering hi-hats and snares.
