Unknown - Faux Métier #09

  • The credo of Faux Métier is simple: "Let the music be the sole factor of judgment." No marketing, no ads, limited digital placement and, er, no artists. Well, someone must be making this stuff but, as with its eight previous releases, Faux Métier let the music do the talking. In the case of "Creme De Menthe" that means a mid-tempo, trippy track that trots along on a bed of yawning bass and twisted disco, replete with a spectral piano breakdown. While the garage inflections, crash cymbals and linear groove of "1% Visible" aren't quite as memorable, the sprawling jack-a-thon "Posthumous" puts the EP firmly back on course. With a discordant drone as a backdrop, heavily compressed claps tap out a relentless tattoo, backed with a live bass twang. "Rings Of Saturn" offers something decidedly off-piste, coming off more like some sci-fi trip-hop with crushing beats and glacial synths.
