Earth House Hold - See Through You

  • New Brooklyn label Peach started its adventure back in July. Their second release marks a rare outing for Earth House Hold, the four-to-the-floor moniker of prolific ambient producer bvdub. Like the label's debut, See Through You weaves several styles together, from deep house and techno to pop. Weighing in at 12 minutes each, the EP's two tracks are far from your usual club fare. With vocals as the central component, both adopt more of a traditional song-like structure, placing an emphasis on lyrics and using the other elements to maintain its mood. "Back Where I Belong" is the more expressive of the pair, jumping straight in with a swirling bed of reverberating claps, dreamy pads and thick kicks. The lyrics are both assertive and sad, charting the aftermath of a break-up. As the track progresses, the intensity builds to a bold, impassioned crescendo. On "Little Late For That Now," EHH explores slightly darker terrain. Dusky shimmers play out over a chunky slo-mo house beat, providing a meditative platform for the record's hopeful musings on the power of love. Halfway through, as if in response, a longing male vocal takes the reigns, brilliantly complementing the record's dense, suffocating synths. It's a shame EHH so rarely dusts off his house alias, as the results are immersive and epic.
