- We know it's based in Sheffield, but there's no further information available on new outfit Bitter End Records. Their inaugural EP doesn't even name the producers who appear here.
The release kicks off with "Take It All Away," a contemporary take on '90s New York house. A gorgeous diva vocal soars across an organic bed of kicks and claps, adorned with funk licks and driven by an imperfectly plump bassline. It's the kind of track that will turn heads at a party, big or small. "Happiness" is fuelled by the same groovy energy but, thanks to stop-start synths and intermittent vocal hits, it has a little extra quirkiness. "Patti Bell" leaves the vocals to one side, constructing a simple yet devastating tapestry of stripped-back kicks, broad claps and meandering bell-toll synths. The music—raw, funky dance floor weapons—very much does the talking here.
