Vincent Floyd - Your Eyes

  • This is the first in a Rush Hour reissue series of classic and unreleased tracks by Chicago producer Vincent Floyd, and if this first record is anything to go by it'll prove to be an inspired idea. "Your Eyes" and "I'm So Deep" were originally released in 1990 as part of a five-track EP for the revered Dance Mania label. "Your Eyes" is an absolutely beautiful piece of classic Chicago vocal house, illuminated by Chan's lovelorn, melt-in-the-mouth vocal and Floyd's becalming musical backing, which blends a pretty guitar line and tropical percussion with the far-off sounds of kisses and breaking waves. The package includes an almost equally charming instrumental version of the title track and "I'm So Deep," a faintly ominous comedown from the sunshine rush of "Your Eyes." Its most striking feature is a slightly symphonic synth line, around which ring-modulated bass and a whispered vocal slope and creep to complete a gloriously sinister and defiantly jacking brew.
