Richie Hawtin vs Ricardo Villalobos at Fabric

  • The Hawtin vs Villalobos show at fabric was always to be a big night. But until you’re in the club, settled down with a drink, and ready to enjoy the show you never really know how it will turn out... Upon arrival we were greeted by the life blood of Fabric’s Saturday nights with Craig Richards on the decks. He was mixing a slightly more vibrant party type set for the slightly restless crowd. Craig Richards' played for an hour over-schedule. This was due a delayed arrival of Richie and Ricardo - transport problems apparently causing the delay. For those of you that aren’t familiar with Ricardo Villalobos he's a Chilean DJ, at the pointy end of the minimal techno genre. Ricardo gained a reputation for himself not by abusing press circles, but by simply providing quality productions and DJ sets. Richie Hawtin on the other hand is the Minus founder and Final Scratch touting techno master. Hawtin and Villalobos provided a mixture of built-up thumping techno highs vs minimal bleeping lows. It was a combination that kept the crowd on the dancefloor throughout the night. One of the best things about the night was the atmosphere - up there with the finest of Fabric nights throughout the year. Hats off to fabric for pushing minimal night and in doing so packing the house, with hoards queuing around the corner well past 3am. But it didn't end there. The afterparty completed the night (or in this case day) for those in a marathon party mood. R&R continued on the decks in Room Three - playing the way into Sunday afternoon.
