Trafik – Your Light I know what you’re saying to yourself. Not another review of a Luke Chable remix. Hasn’t this guy gotten enough exposure? Well, yes, and who cares cos the second release from Global Underground’s “The Music” imprint is one of the biggest and most anticipated records out there. Releasing Pako & Frederik’s Systematic was the first step to reconfirming their dominance in the underground dance culture. And now with Trafik’s “Your Light”, they continue their assault on the club and underground scene with a bit of assistance from the man of 2003 and maybe even 2004……LUKE F’in CHABLE!.......o, and btw, GU also gives you the original release from Trafik’s forth coming artist debut album and a reprise (basically, the same version as used on Electric Calm v.1, but with vocal samples).

From Chable comes a big room breaks mix that is filled with his trademark lushful and sometimes a bit bubbly melodies. One hear and you know that this is a track built for the middle of a massive set. Flowing through the track is a wicked breakbeat, drum-chimes, warm sound fx, and little snippets of the vocals to start things off. Then the vocals come in full and it all builds for one thing - the melody. And what a beast it is. Once everything stops and you hear that bubbly melody roll off the song, your head just wants to scream for more. Once there, its all clear sailing as the track starts to cool down and you can cue in the next track. *on a side note, the track is very reminiscent of his remix of Sasha’s “Cloud Cuckoo”

The Original from Trafik starts as if it were an old school Michael Jackson song. Funny, cos the man himself is not looking too good right now. But on to other matters, the vocals are layered over a nice warm breakbeat and trancey uplifting syncs. The vocals are a bit too heavy on the electronic syncs, and it would have been nicer if they keep that down a bit. At times, the original sounds a bit 99ish in tone and the vocals came from the 80’s woodwork. The track feels outdated compared to Chable’s mix.

The Reprise is quick and soft. It feels very much like the exact one used in the first compilation for Electric Calm. Unlike the one used in the compilation, this one has more vocal samples and is just the melody swimming beneath the vocal.

Unfortunately, GU decided not to release the DUB version of Chable’s remix that has been played by every DJ out there. A good thing perhaps since I wouldn’t want to hammer the exact track that everyone has heard for the past few months by everyone other DJ. Whatever thoughts you have on GU, you can’t argue that they don’t release quality house and trance records – both for the home and club.
