  • As I descended the steps of The Bomb night club, the floor was rumbling with the familiar sound of Phil K's breakbeat supremecy. As i finally reached the bottom of the stairs. I stared across a semi full dancefloor to see Phil jumping about like a madman to the insatiable breaks madness eminating from the bombs rather excellant PA system. Phil was playin dirty bass heavy stuff at this point causing me to find a prime spot right in front of the subs. This gave me prime position at the back of the main room to savour the bass drops and the amazing melodic infusion he was dropping between the dark and dirty beats that were sending the crowd crazy. This soon descended into carnage as the dancefloor began to pack full of avid breakbeat madness. I even managed to spy what can only be described as dancefloor carnage as he dropped in some of the dirtiest progressive breaks ive heard and ever likely to hear. I remember thinking how much more i loved breakbeat when Phil began wrapping up his set. A quick trip to the toilet would turn out to be the most surreal moment of the night. I was waiting in line eager to catch the start of Dave Seaman set when none other than Dave himself emerging from the cubicle. I froze for a second and blinked rapidly while i thought back to previous renaissance nights where this man stood in front of me had taken me on some of the most profound musical journeys of my life. I did the only thing i could. I shook his hand and wished him luck. This was going to be a corker. As his set started I knew the chances of getting a place on the less than large dancefloor would be impossible i resigned myself to a nice comfortable location back near the sub again. There had been an argument between me and a few friends as to how he would play i staked alot of pride that he would play his old way mixed with the style we heard in his last Global Underground masterpiece. 'Melodic But Dark'. I was spot on Dave began with a collection of amazing minimal percussive stormers. With subtle melodic lines breaking through beautifully. The energy on the dancefloor could only be described as perfection, as his set entered its next phase. He didnt disapoint he began dropping in some of the most amazing progressive house since his legendar sets at renaissance's old home of media. Insatiable grooves layered with infectious beats locked me into a groove the likes of which I hadnt felt since my last outing 6 months beforehand. Just when I thought he couldnt take it better. HE DID! Not only did he mix with pint point accuracy he mixed every peak of every track to great affect to hold the energy level at a constant peak. The energy of the peaks was only matched by the awe inspiring breakdowns that were being devoured by the hungry crowd. I for one nearly jizzed my pants on several occasions. I finally decided to venture out into the crowded wreck that was the dancefloor. Im glad I did, blistering heat and unbearable ammounts of sweat aside the connection i felt at that point with the music. Well put it this way. Im still recovering from this night even now. The blend of dirty evil breakbeat and amazing dark melodic infused prog took me to the heights of heaven and into the depths of hell all in one superb night of music. I am under no illusion renaissance did it again. Not only had they relived some of the fondest clubbing memories they had cemented my belief in progressive music deeper and more profoundly than i ever could have imagined. Dave? Phil? we salute you as that night was not only a testament to your undying genius as DJ's but also your tireless efforts to keep the music we hold so dealy alive and kicking. 2 words PURE PERFECTION!
