Deepsky - Talk Like A Stranger

  • Deepsky make an appearance on YO with a very limited promo release of ‘Talk Like A Stranger’. More fondly known for their trance productions, Deepsky are moving into a new era while still utilising their euphoric, deep sound. The Original mix starts off with a nice sound scape of noises and strings which sets the mood for the track once the solid four-four beats come in. The track has a more progressive feel and is clearly evident with deep sounds, rough samples and subdued melodies. The female vocal is the main draw card here and holds a subtle sleazy tone while the production work is mostly overlooked. Nice string lead breakdowns work well throughout but I think the vocals are a tad overused. Still a nice original mix to kick off this pack. Markus Schulz is no stranger (no pun intended) to remixing as he delivers a driving, techy affair. Tough beats and simple hit hats create the mood early on along with the original melody, but the best is yet to come with a unqiue baseline which closely imitates the irregular beat. The vocal makes a strong appearance but never casts a shadow on some great melodic work by Markus. Plenty of beats and pieces here with this 11 minute peak time remix. Very Good. The Burufunk mix takes a break beat turn towards the good with laid back beats and extra effects. The vocal is cut and used effectively especially when the beat is dropped in from the echoing effects in the breakdown. Burufunk’s interpretation on the melody is quirky and has a dirty, acid sound that works well with the controlled breaks. Sunday Club remix strips back the original and adds some rolling synths and soft, atmospheric sounds. The vocal is yet again the main attraction but the variety of melodies and a gracious breakdown give’s us something else to tune into to. Markus definitely gets the award in this group with his impressive tech beats. It’s a solid release and different from YO.
