Azuli presents Miami 2004 mixed by Dave Piccioni

  • A good way to judge Azuli's yearly report from the winter music conference is to come back to it a month or so down the line and see how the tunes are faring. Pretty well on this occasion - the track selection from David Piccioni includes some 2004 heavyweights, a few oddities and a couple of excellent remixes. The heavyweights first, and none more weighty than Martin Solveig's 'Rocking Music', which has been tearing up dancefloors for Defected over the last few months. The superstar trio of Morillo, Romero and Nunez also appear on CD1, Romero's wife Jessica Eve supplying the punchline for 'Dancin'. The task of opening CD2 falls to the irresistable funk of the Chicken Lips track 'He Not In', overplayed now but still rocking. The oddities are lead by Spawn Blonde's 'Waterfall', where the strangely effective wailing vocal won't be to all tastes, and the fantastically high pitched Scissor Sisters remix of Bucci Bag's 'Lemonade', containing the best hook on either disc. Kurtis Mantronik also lends a hand to Goldfrapp's 'Twist', propelling it towards a heavier dancefloor. In summary, a decent snapshot of life in Miami this season and a reliable, solid guide to some of dance music's biggest floorfillers in the months to come.
