  • The very good people at Silver Planet have decided its time to give the young blood a good workout on their label. And why not? After uncovering many quality names in our industry (James Holden springs to mind) the label has proved its worth with numerous quality releases in the Progressive and House scene. As such, the label have decided to release a compilation entitled The Secret Planet to showcase what we have to look forward to, not just from the label, but for the young breed of upcoming producers. The mix begins quite well with a deep driving affair from Tripo entitled ‘It’s Time’. In fact the flow from the word go is quite relentless, again showcased by the deep driving baselines and quirky effects of “Dark Storm’, a track that flows effortlessly into the smooth beats and industrial effects of Cedric Indra’s ‘You Project’. ‘Tomorrow’ by Andres & Xavier is a real highlight, with nice melodic patterns intertwining pounding beats and smooth subtle baselines. Believer brings the mood down in a good way with ‘Funk Drops’, but surely enough the baselines are back as well as the melodies with ‘Wasteland’ by Shibumi. The beats get broken but the mood never drops, this time with a quite stunning release by Narcose & Orchid in ‘Decrescent’. The cd is now fully emerged into progressive breaks territory, confirmed by the beautiful soundscapes of ‘Pluto’ by White & Liousias. Perhaps the biggest name on here, Chris Salt, puts his two cents worth in with the bubbling beats of ‘Undertow’, a track that leads back into 4/4 territory, firstly with the impressive ‘Code 5’ by OMB and then the twisted vocal effects and churning baselines of ‘Cherry Red’ by Kinnder. ‘Digital Hymn’ by Micah closes the cd off in great style adding quite a unique touch to this mix with quirky beats as well as a nice retro melodic pattern. There definitely isn’t a shortage of production talent in the Silver Planet ranks, with this compilation living proof. Often brining melody to music, this label has shown with this compilation that they plan to stick with the winning formula that has kept them at the top of the game for 8 years now. With tracks and artist like the ones featured on the Secret Planet, it looks as though it will continue for 8 years more at the very least.
