Natan H - Atmosphere

  • Acid Camp is a party-turned-label that, on Sundays in LA's warehouse district, invites techno DJs like Mike Dehnert, Bill Converse and Nick Höppner to play alongside emerging local acts. One such local is Natan H, AKA Jordan Hochenbaum, who delivers Acid Camp Records' second 12-inch, Atmosphere. Like its predecessor from the Seattle producer Simic, it's a lush and spacey bundle of techno and ambient. The A-side features the title track and a remix from Conforce. Hochenbaum's original is as gorgeous as it is irregular. The kicks are uneven and the atmosphere swells and fades like it's driven by cold gusts of wind. Conforce turns this into 4/4 techno, but layers of sinister melodies keep the mood trippy and dark. The B-side is more ethereal. "Remote View Pt. I" is a dusty ambient piece, whose softly quivering streaks evoke a sense of longing. "Remote View Pt. II" has a similar feel, but it's nudged along by dubwise drums and synths that unfurl like paint drops in water.
