Barac - Pata Din Mijlocul Naturii

  • "I'm able to add a sense of emotion to my music by adding melody lines," Barac told RA last year. "The connection between you and the audience is easier to make when you do this." The Romanian producer has been putting a melodic twist on minimal house since 2014's Variety Of Different Feelings, a deeply personal LP that inspired a wave of artists to swap abstract bleeps for pads and synths. "Asa E Omul," the 14-minute A-side of his latest EP, sounds like it could've been made around the same time. With humming tones and a halftime groove, it recalls album tracks like "Fram, Ursul Polar" and "Marea Neagră." That's no bad thing—they're among modern minimal's best tunes. There are more introspective sounds on the B-side. "Cursul Respiratiei" has another slouchy rhythm, drawing you in with a stoned flute that snakes through shifting percussion. "Sapte Numarul Magic," tucked away on the B2, is a surprise highlight. It's like William Basinski meets deep house, with the kind of soft modular tones you usually hear on ambient records set against a propulsive stomp. Whichever track you put the needle on, this EP will bring about powerful dance floor moments.
