Otherworldly experimental club tracks with a high-end production quality.
TRRUENO cofounder Astrosuka nails this balancing act on this three-track EP, с|т|р|у|к|т|у|р|ы (Russian for "structures"). "структура I" and "структура III" are slamming rhythm tracks built on painstakingly programmed drums and lots of bass. The way Astrosuka uses reverb is also notable. The settings on reverb plug-ins are often modelled on real-life three-dimensional rooms that dictate the way sound behaves. On one hand, the reverb here sounds incredibly lifelike, like you're actually inside a room with the reverberating sound waves. On the other, It would be impossible to recreate the conditions for this type of reverb in a physical space. Astrosuka describes the tracks as "organic yet physically impossible spaces," so this might be what he's referring to—an exciting cognitive dissonance.
The sound design is especially deadly on "структура III." It's 145 BPM but its rhythms are so lively and dynamic that you might not realise how fast it is. There's a second drop just after the two-minute mark that will melt minds with its sudden overwhelming barrage of snares. (You could imagine Objekt rinsing it.) "структура II" is a brief beatless interlude that's like a palate cleanser between the club tracks, with the same painstaking programming applied to textural exploration. It captures the paradoxical feeling felt on the other two tracks with a sound palette that's deeply synthetic but somehow lifelike.
