- Justin Broadrick built the JK Flesh name with fast, hard techno. But this year he released a split record with Goth-Trad that promised "Below 100 BPM slow motion industrial dread techno only." He seems intent on sticking with that. In Your Pit, which lands on The Bug's Pressure label, is unforgiving. "In Your Pit" is slow and steely, wielding a modulated bassline. The feeling is crushing as it burrows into your head, getting gritter the longer you listen, an effect drone metal bands like Earth and Sunn O))) love to exploit.
Crawling from dirt to sludge, "Paranoid Archetype" drudges through its own toxic muck, a dystopian track with siren-like synths. "Rub Me Out," the closest thing to regular techno, has a stiff kick drum that makes it less interesting than the others. The Bug appears for a remix of "In Your Pit" that doesn't have the same lead-foot march as the original, instead hinging on a drunken swing. Broadrick has made a career out of exploring heaviness, and In Your Pit is as hard as ever.
