- Despite the city's tough nightlife regulations, Sydney's electronic community is pumping with club nights, warehouse raves and record stores that bring together local DJs and producers. The label Addition By Subtraction, established in 2018 by Sydney natives Jason Spyrides and Jethro Fox, is focused on minimal house.
Addition By Subtraction's latest release, Third Addition, was created by artists from different parts of the world, yet it sounds homogeneous. Each track is connected to the previous one. "Patchwork," produced by the UK duo Sucasa, is a safe and steady choice for the club. A remix by the Berlin-based Willers Brothers borrows the original track's rhythm, strips it down and applies different melodic ideas. "Subtraction" by the Italian producer Akyra is the standout, presenting a swinging house rhythm and cheerful synth chords. Its weirdness makes it interesting, especially the glitches and blurry vocals that bring a human touch to the release.
