A superstar remix package from the vanguard of electronic music and pop.
The original mix of "Features Creatures," from Björk's 2017 album Utopia, is a haunting, beautiful, Arca-produced ballad that underlines the kinship between her and Dreijer. In her Fever Ray remix, Dreijer replaces Arca's misty backdrop with a clanking industrial beat. Olof Dreijer joins his sister for a remix of the same song as The Knife. Reunited for this one track, the siblings conjure a thumping, writhing, alien club banger, with Björk's voice drifting far overhead, Dreijer's closer to earth. It would have fit nicely on Shaking The Habitual, their last album together, or Olof's RA podcast from last year.
Björk's somewhat terrifying remix of Fever Ray's "This Country Makes It Hard To Fuck" (originally titled "This Country") is the wildcard here. It is a nightmarish swirl of distorted kick drums and horror-movie synths, the whole thing heaving to a seasick rhythm as Björk and Dreijer repeat that titular phrase. Hearing them side by side, it's striking how artists of different generations all sound on the same level with each other. Ultimately this record is a lark, a fun but minor work for each of the artists involved. Still, it reminds us that all of them remain on the vanguard of both electronic music and pop.
