A mesmerising 12-minute minimal trip uncovered deep into a Mannheim afterhours.
Paul Walter - Unknown
Sometime in the middle of a Mannheim afterhours earlier this year, Sedee were playing to a dwindling audience of diehards. One track's long intro made me stop talking, ensuring I didn't stray far from the speakers. As it unfurled, I moved closer to the decks, poured some more gin and tonic and built up the courage to ask Dave Nicolas, one of Sedee's two members, about what was playing. Unreleased and made by Paul Walter, a producer from Austria, it sounded so soothing that morning. The melodies were so catchy that, even today, despite hearing it months ago, I still hum its synths while walking the streets.
Paul Walter contributes a lot to the Austrian scene. A former student of Experimental And Electroacoustic Composition at Vienna's University Of Music And Performing Arts, Walter also runs Meduka Records and has released music on labels such as Harlo and Neostrictly. The track I heard in Mannheim is still unreleased, but it would be a shame if it didn't reach a wider audience.
