- An Ibiza anthem gets remixed.
- Roberto Surace's "Joys" is one of the most-played house tracks of the year. Thanks to Purple Disco Machine, a German producer once dubbed a "one-man disco army," it looks like we'll be hearing this Ibiza hit's earworm vocals for months to come. Purple Disco Machine's remix was released a few weeks ago, the first of what I can only assume will be a string of reworks (Todd Terry supplied the second). His version is more ambitious than Surace's original, with more drops, more melody and a busier arrangement. It's a more conventional big Ibiza tune—there are several moments of tension and release—which takes the focus away from the vocals that made Surace's track a hit in the first place. This new version doesn't have the original's unfussy charm, but it gives DJs an excuse to extend its joy.
