- Percussion is an important sonic pillar on the South Asian subcontinent. Instruments like the tabla, ghatam and dhol feature prominently in folk and popular music. Futherthing this legacy is Zanuski, or Zahaan Khan, a Mumbai-based producer.
Khan, who is the son of the famed actress Zeenat Aman, released an immersive percussion-based EP called Free Flow Mon Ami Vol. 1 earlier this month, a departure from his earlier folk and rock releases. The 13-minute, five-track record has Khan's beat-making at its center. "Darks Is Coming" has a house groove, while "Jokes On Us" is much slower, winding with minimal drums and a thick melody. This EP is minimal and concise, but it doesn't fall short on substance.
