- Released earlier this month on supərpawərz, Total Freedom's remix of Metome's "Gumball" is a detonating club track with scathing social commentary. For the intro, Chloe x Halle's 2016 momentous performance of the US national anthem on BET, is transmuted into a ghastly gospel. The chaos persists, arriving in gusts of bass interspersed between garbled, high-pitched vocals and harrowing cries.
Eventually, the track ripples with a 2016 recording of Kelly Holsey berating State Attorney Marilyn Mosby for her corrupt involvement in the Keith Davis, Jr. trials. (Davis, a young black man, was recently found guilty of murder in a contentious case that has rattled the Baltimore activist community for the past three years.) Closing with somber piano chords, this is Total Freedom at his finest, weaving narrative and confrontational messaging into disorienting club music.
