- Laughing Ears is an up-and-coming producer from Shanghai making the rounds on some of China's best labels, including Beijing's Ran Music and Hangzhou's FunctionLab. She's landed on the pan-Asian Chinabot label with Metamorphosis, Laughing Ears' strongest release so far. It's a smooth fusion of footwork, trap and smoky lounge ambience. The atmospheres on this EP are often striking, as heard in stunning moments like the breakdown in "Melting." "Unstable" beckons you in with a beautiful waft of ambient synth and wailing saxophone, like something you'd hear in a Wong Kar-wai movie. You can almost smell the cigarette smoke and worn leather couches.
