Naveen G - Dura

  • The Cleveland based label, Toes in the Sand records, has had a fast start. It’s first release by Michael Lanning, “Bound for Ascension,” was used by Anthony Pappa on his Balance 006 mix CD. Now T.I.T.S. has just released it’s fourth record, Dura, by Naveen G (with a mighty remix by Steve Porter) and things are looking brighter than ever! Naveen G has already had successful releases including ones on Jon Lisle’s M-Theory and Yoshitoshi. He continues on with this Original tune which is carried by a break beat backing, but still carries the melody all the way through. The break has a real haunting vibe to it as Naveen strips away and there is a moment of silence before it returns and slowly builds up again. Things finally ride out again with the return of the piano line making for a well-crafted outro, making it interesting to mix out of. Everything about this tune fulfills my expectation of what progressive breaks should be about. The flip side has Steve Porter going with a four to the floor progressive monster. It starts off with a solid, driving bassline that leads into a detuned piano line that sets up a darker feel to the record. However, the mood lightens up a little as a horn section comes in. As the track progresses it builds subtly, yet powerfully, especially when heard on a big system. Porterhouse has put together a tune that could be used to build to something really big in a set, or bend minds at the end of one. Keep an eye out for all the parties involved with this- I see big things ahead for all of them!
