Orchid - The Technicolor EP

  • One label that has been in wonderful form in the last year is Silver Planet, and they look to continue this with The Technicolor EP, a two disc EP, by one of the labels hottest stars in Orchid. First up on the a-side of disc one is Human Nature, and what a way to start an EP. Broken beats build the track alongside some nice intricate bongo drums shortly before some nice electro synths, smooth string patterns and a melodic synth pattern soon take over. The track steps up another notch when the main vocal line enters as well as the uplifting swirls of sound late on. A very solid beginning to this two discer. Technicolor is on the flip and it is another wonderful production that is slightly more moody thanks to the baseline and upbeat drums, however the track remains uplifting thanks to the beautiful melodic twirls. It is a beautiful track and a great way to close off the first disc. Space Design is first up on disc two and it is another solid production. Some intense 4/4 drums build the track before an absolutely devastating baseline kicks in and drives the track even further alongside another set of subtle melodic patterns. The track enters a breakdown full of broken twisted beats and driving b-lines shortly before re instating the melodic patterns that bring the 4/4 beats back in pure style. Turn it over for Still Searching and you have a slightly more funky breakbeat number that builds nicely alongside a funky as all hell baseline. The trademark melodic patterns of Orchid’s work soon enter and lead into a breakdown where a stunning xylophone pattern soon emerges and takes control of yet another stunning production. The KVK Smoke & Mirrors Remix of Technicolor closes the EP off in a slightly retro way with crisp retro beats uniting well with the melodic patterns from the original track. Progressive fans must have this EP – it is as simple as that. Orchid is definitely one of the shining lights of this scene and this EP is a stunning snapshot of his talent.
