The first track Opencloud – Life eases into a nice bouncing beat, with tiny, scratching bass as melody sweeps over the driving undercurrent. Lots of layers combine together to produce a really nice soundscape, delivering what is in essence a really nice, deep kind of prog-house tune.
Never starts a little more at it, this has a definitely darker tinged effect. The stabbing bass is joined by nicely intricate drum patterns to keep the beat pushing along. This is a really good techy tinged number that just drives along with a killer bassline and really good drum programming.
Sculpting with Jackhammers is an interesting title that’s for sure. A similar structure to Life with driving beats and a nice melody, excepting it’s a little stripped of depth, revealing a harder edged club track which pushes along to a faster beat.
Vous et Je is a whole new breed than the rest of the EP. A real hard edge break kicks it off. Wailing vocals stop the rhythm, before the beats re-enter with a solid bass. This is my kind of track, definitely the favourite of the EP, no doubt for the reason it’s directed by a strong-arse break-beat.
Overall its a very excellent release from the Opencloud guys. They present nice deep progressive tunes, show casing top-notch production skills, and seem to sculpt a sound of their own in this EP.
