Peter Katafalk - Pacific 202

  • There is an argument against remixing classic tracks in the old saying "If it aint broke then dont try and fix it" and Pacific 202 is one of those tracks which many people feel should not be touched, but Peter Katafalk has done just that and here is his interpretaion of this classic track. First up is his Original mix which starts off with some seriously 80's influenced drums and a driving elecro bassline which drives the track along. As the track progresses it builds up into the Pacific 202 pads but whether they actually work with such a harsh electro bassline underneath is a matter of opinion, i dont think they do but thats just me and just adds to the arguement that maybe this track should have been left well alone. On the flipside is Maskios acid terrace mix and this at least brings something new to the table. Replacing the elecro elements with some squelchy acid gives the track a much deeper feel and is preferable to me. The acid builds up throughout before the pads come in later and lift the whole track making this mix at least respectfull to 808 States original and different enough to justify its release. Overall the arguements will no doubt rage over whether this track should have been done at all but at least Maskios acid terrace mix gives the track some new life without killing the original vibe completely, which sadly Pater Katafalks original does.
