Retroid - Snowdrop

  • There seems to be no let up in the quality of productions coming from the Feralcode camp, the sixth release comes compliments of fellow countryman Retroid.Ádám Huszár is no stranger to the label having put out the exciting Glitch disco at the beginning of 06. Snowdrop comes in three distinct takes, first off the plate is the Original mix which displays Retroids true flavour comprising of an intricate lattice of broken rhythms keeping a constant flow while an emotive wash of melodies constantly develop about a deep bassline. The use of soft sounds and dreamy memorable synth hooks from start to finish makes for a pleasurable experience on the dancefloor. Next up is Micah's snowglobe ski instructor remix, turning up the heat with a high octane mix of almost techy, incessant percussion along with energetic, broken rhythms ontop of a 4/4 beat.Aftertraces of the originals melodies work about underneath while just as the track builds, its pulled back down and remoulded before gathering pace again.Funked up bassline and twangly melodies add even further to something with old style flavour. V-Sag's snowed under dub wraps things up with a dirty roller the inimitable style of rumbling drum and bass patterns together with a gritty, filtering mix of steady percussion.Events progress at a relaxed pace as airy sounds and hits hypnotise us while fluttering melodies ease their way into the mix, layering with others and intertwine into what isa rich mystical take. That's not it as choppy reversed chords take over control till the end. With three emotion packed mixes this is a must have for peaktime sets.
