Ctrl-Z - Kung Fu Funk with Screwface/Shotgun Riddim with Ken Mac

  • The next release in Hardcore Beats' ever growing catalogue shows that even a somewhat serious sounding breaks label has a fun side and who better to deliver that promise than one of the's finest upcoming breaks duos, CTRL-Z, who intend to "undo" (sorry for the bad geeky pun) any misconceptions held about the bassline breaks scene. Kung Fu Funk features a interpretation classic 70s kung fu movie theme including the horns, wah wah disco guitar riff all the way to the vocal shout... probably best not to spoil the surprise until you hear it for yourself! Not only that but they've also incorporated clanging swords and hip hop vocal samples coming live from the 36 chambers. All fun aside, this is a big rocking tune which mixes a massive growling bassline with a tech-funky beat and a really intense build up towards the end. There's just as much sample madness to be heard with Shotgun Riddim on the flip, with this tune broadcasting samples from the Gulf War with snippets of army speeches, dark movie samples and reloading sniper rifles. In contrast to Kung Fu Funk, this one drops a rolling tear-out break, a growling bassline and not to mention big drum fills all of which have become trademarks of the CTRL-Z sound. A big, cheesy 80s guitar solo takes over during the breakdown and as the vocal sample states afterwards... "it'll blow your fucking mind!" Wow, very original and a lot of fun to listen to. I'm digging this release.
