Don Diablo - Down The Drain

  • Boombox records are once again expanding their artist roster to include more newcomers to the world of breakbeat and this time they've taken on Dutch signing, Don Diablo. Hailing from the world of trance, Don has provided Boombox with a deep, electro-infused stomper with plenty of crossover appeal with a highly recognisable vocal sample that should win over new fans to the realm of breakbeat. With its wobbling 4 to the floor house beat, it's hard to tell whether Down The Drain belongs under breakbeat or tech-house/electro. During the intro, Diablo teases the listener with syncopated percussive drops, a classic disco vocal sample and snippets of the synth hook that later takes control of the tune. After a buildup (which features a few times during the tune itself), the tune then takes on a industrial meets breakbeat feel utilising the sounds of crashing snares to give it that stomping effect. Leaning towards the breakier end of things is the Audio Support Unit remix who syncopate the tune right from the start with an eager snare and double kicks during the intro. Once the juice of the tune kicks in, Audio Support drop a deep, monotonic bassline and a techy breakbeat very far removed from the 4/4 beats of the original. The original is a winner! It's been tested with good results and should win Boombox fans from electro, tech-house and breakbeat and it overshadows the breaks remix in many ways.
