‘Kingdom’ leads off with a half-step pattern embellished by ravey woodblocks and jungle atmospherics reminiscent of the finest Horsepower. And not to take anything away from it, but it’s the tracks on the B side that really push forward. ‘Purify’ is 2-step twisted for 2008. African samples make way for the brilliantly wonky drop, which should find favour in all the best clubs. ‘Test Signal’ meanwhile convolutes things further with some of the most intriguing turns heard in a tune in quite some time.
This is an excellent debut, and one that is sure to go down well with people who delight in the constantly evolving nature of the genre.
