Untold - Yukon

  • Untold's run of form that gifted us the Kingdom 12-inch on Hessle Audio continues here with two new tracks on gorgeously presented vinyl for his own label, Hemlock. The tracks take a darker tack than those on Hessle: "Yukon" is a 2-step horrorcore trip through distressed samples that bumps with chordal insanity and huge kicks. Synths burble and the bass runs, while downright funky breaks pop and shatter at crucial moments. A total shock out record, it proves that the new deep dubstep need not be polite. The B-side, "Walk Through Walls," starts with a ruffled 4/4 sub that only becomes more turbulent, while DJ Paul-esque micro samples run relays in the background. This is prime dance floor material, and will make any dancer lose its mind, especially when the funk lick introduced techno breakdown hits. Both tracks find a balance between meticulous detail, deepness, and pure dance floor sensibility that is very rare indeed. Essential for anyone with an interest in post-UKG rhythmic wizardry.
