Achterbahn d'Amour - Your Love Achterbahn d'Amour - Your Love
Achterbahn d'Amour - Your Love The world of trademark law has been dealt yet another blow by Iron Curtis' new project, Achterbahn d'Amour—a collaboration with fellow flouter Edit Piafra. They won't find any evidence of infringement in the music, however, which is about as reduced, impulsive and un-chanson-like as you can imagine.

The release opens boldly with "Your Love," a slow, jerky live jam that builds with a gentle gradient. Claps and snares are queued to give a hip-hop sensibility to an otherwise acid soundscape that remains distinctly barren and DJ tool-suggestive until the introduction of chord stabs in the final two minutes—a drop that sounds something like the first WAX record pitched at -8. The roller coaster (achterbahn) slows even further on "Talking Acid," but that's probably so you can enjoy the love part manifest in a dolefully funky bass that belies its two-note simplicity, and a metallic pad that sings harmony as if from a robot choir.

Here, the unhurried speed gets the best out of its engine, while on the two Idjut Boys remixes of "Your Love," it simply sounds lethargic. There is very little happening on either the ho house or hum acid version to call for such an idle plod, which would normally heighten awareness of intricacies. It's telling that the most exciting parts on both are when the kick drum doubles its pace.
