Robert Babicz - Slide

  • Robert Babicz has been around the block a few times, which would serve to explain the straight-up, in-your-face attitude which characterises this EP. Two heavy acid tracks, each mirror images of one another. No lengthy intros. No clever introduction of new elements. No pretense. Basically, it sounds like Hardfloor crossed with Drumcode... with a bit of drumming from Capricorn's '93 classic "20 Hz" thrown in. In both tracks, Babicz employs multiple 303s, layering their warbling tones to create that inimitable sound. Coupled with pounding drums and simple, raw hi-hats, it's easy to miss the subtle elements lurking below. On "Slide," a barely distinguishable, sonar-like ponging. On the other side, racing filters which later resolve into sinister screeching. This frantic acid sound has been done and done, but when re-hashed by a brain like Babicz, it's easy not to care.
