- Industrial strength techno with just enough detail to keep you on your toes. That's been the remit of Komisch thus far, and it continues here with the second EP from SP-X. Whether X is a pseudonym for a well-known producer or simply someone starting out isn't quite clear. But the fact that you need to even ponder it points to the quality of the work: Clearly this is someone that knows what they're doing in the studio.
Not far from the faceless track titles of their debut, we're greeted with "Side Field Construction," "Internalize" and "Flux." Yet somehow they're 100% indicative of what you're going to get, pitting the hard-edged sound of Sonic Groove against the droning pulses of Prologue. It's a perfect match, especially in "Flux" which has a sound eerily reminiscent of a man screaming in the distance for a very long time. Credit the arrangement on this one, as the layering is impeccable. "Internalize" might be even better. If you broke the track open, it'd look a bit like the original Nintendo version of Donkey Kong—steel girders, open spaces and lots of scary things coming at you when you least expect it.
