Way Out Warren
Way Out Warren

Nick Warren is one of the biggest names in Dance Music. Whether it be his consistently solid DJ performances, or his much loved work with Jody Wisternoff as Way Out West, the fans for Nick Warren are endless it seems. With Nick performing in Auckland on NYE, and in Australia in early January (including a New Years Day gig at Greenwood, Sydney), we thought now is as good a time as ever to have a word with the man himself. Despite an extremely busy schedule, Nick has discussed some interesting points regarding Way Out West in particular…

How has 2003 been for you so far Nick, considering the hectic schedule that you so often have?
Very busy gigs have been great as ever and in the studio with Jody.

Does the DJ lifestyle take a lot out of you as you slowly get a bit older?
Not really, I have slowed down on the partying, but still love all the gigs.

The great production partnership with yourself and Jody is set to continue with the upcoming single ‘Muthaf**ka’. What can we expect from this new track and what else have you got planned as Way Out West?
Muthaf**ka was a one off party tune, the new album is very musical with a new female vocalist ‘Omi’ she is fantastic, and some stunning sonic breaks tracks along the same lines as Apollo.

Have you considered playing together as a live act?
We will be touring next year as a full live band.

You have a great fan base in Australasia with your often yearly tour becoming a highlight in these parts. What is it that you love about this place in particular?
Australia is such a stunning place with great people. I will be spending January there again and always have a great time.

Have you considered living here for good?
Would love to but it is so far away from my family, being a father I want to stay close to my daughter.

It must be an exciting prospect playing somewhere new for NYE this year (Auckland)!
Auckland is always a massive gig for me; I have built up a good fan base there so am really excited.

There seems to be a lot of new talent on the scene these days. Are their any DJ’s or Producers that impress you of these new faces?
Jan carbon is a great DJ. Good to see Phil K getting the respect he has always deserved at last. Steve Gerrard is doing good things and Mr Chable is rocking it at the moment but there are many more.

As a DJ, can you name your favourite mix compilation of all time?
The first Café Del Mar album is a favourite of mine.

Now away from the music, what does Nick Warren like to get up to?
Big fisherman! Will be chasing some sailfish up in Byron during January.

Here are the dates for Nick Warren's Australasian tour:

Wed 31 Dec 03 - Auckland, St James Theatre
Thur 1 Jan 04 - Sydney, Sounds on NYD, Greenwood Hotel
Fri 9 Jan 04 - Byron Bay, C-Moog
Sat 10 Jan 04 - Melbourne, Room 680
Sun 11 Jan 04 - Perth, Summerdayze
