The latest Renaissance presents the Therapy Sessions mixed compilation CD by Phil K and Dave Seaman showcases both DJs experience behind the decks. Dave Seaman serves up a deep blend of underground progressive house sounds, complimented by a creative blend of house and breaks from Phil K. Therapy Sessions wins me over for another reason though, it brings Phil K and Dave Seaman to Sydney and to Sounds on Sunday on the 16th May.

Resident Advisor snatched a few moments with Dave and Phil mid tour, promoting the new Therapy Sessions. Dave Seaman has worked on numerous CDs. This being his own series I wanted to know how much more artistic license he had? “It was actually the complete opposite. Artistically it was less free than my previous CDs. Therapy Sessions is very much a collaborative project, it’s not just my CD. What having my own series has done is allowed me to showcase some of the other DJs on our agency who I believe deserve some props, and what I wanted to do was to be the foil to whatever they wanted to express."

Many of the tracks reflect Dave’s creative, deep house progressive style, whilst Phil K plays a more breakbeat set. During the tour the friends have been playing Back2Back as opposed to separating the sets. It’s easy to tell from the tone of Phil’s voice that he’s a big fan of playing alongside Dave. But then after all, who wouldn’t be happy playing Back2Back or working in the studio with one of their best mates? Back to the CD, because many of the tracks are less well known I want to know if there is one particular track that you expect to be a big tune? “That’s a tough one. There are a lot of good tunes; I think Phil bagged a real winner in NuBreed’s ‘One Day’" answers Dave. "We’ve been playing it everywhere on the tour and it’s quickly developing into a classic”.

Phil K is a Melbourne boy and well known in Australia for his passion for music and creativity behind the decks. After the tour Phil is looking forward to having some more time to focus on his own music and developing original tracks as opposed to remixing. Dave meanwhile knows exactly where he’s heading when he gets to Australia “to clear customs and immigration as quickly and easily as possible. It’s the one part of coming to Australia that’s a drag. But after that it’s a pleasure. I’m going to Melbourne first so I’ll probably head straight to Chapel Street and spend a fortune at Kwamee’s”.

Sounds on Sunday is a new venue for Dave Seaman and Phil K together, currently billed to be playing separately. I for one hope to hear them play back2back and can’t wait to hear what the Therapy Sessions duo have in store for us on May 16.
