You may know Brian Varga, aka Halo, from his many productions in the H-Foundation guise as well as the numerous solo efforts of this talented producer. Put him behind the decks, however, and you get one highly talented man, a man who professes that DJ'ing is still his number one pastime. From Africa to Australia, Halo has played at a host of destinations in his years as a musician, and it is his love for House music that keeps his name at the forefront of the scene. We caught up with Brian for a few moments to share his love for all that is musical.
RA last spoke to you in 2002. How has life been treating in those 3 short years?
Well the past 3 yrs have been really busy with Djing and Production, I also just started a new label called CityDeep Music with 1st release coming out 3rd week of May. Also in the works of my artist album which will be complete by the end of this year...
Many people will know you through your work alongside Hipp-E. Have you guys got any productions or mixes lined up?
Hipp-e and myself, about 2 years ago, decided to go our separate ways and do other things we both still have busy schedules and still stayed friends but we don’t work together any more so I don’t think u will be seeing any collaboration any time soon.
Any other collaborations or solo stuff lined up?
Yeah I’ve been working a lot in NY with some good friends of mine Alix Alvarez and Mr. V who work side by side with Louie Vega I just had a single come out on Large Music with Mr. V. Also just finshed up a remix for my friend Marlon D for his album Love is the key, on Jellybean Records that is due out in a few weeks
Where do you think the future of DJ'ing is heading considering the state of affairs with the increase of Laptop and more 'live' elements entering the scene?
Well I think there is still a big bunch of DJ’s like myself who still stick to using vinyl and some cd’s. I’m really not into DJ’ing off my laptop.
Did you recently visit Miami in March? And if so, did you go for (A)Parties (B)Work (C)Women (D)All of it!
Yeah Miami was great this year I played a couple select parties also we did our CityDeep Music label launch party with legendary Tony Humphries which was amazing including the Masters at Work party and Underground Collective party so yea I went down for Work, Party and no women. My beautiful woman was waiting for me to get home.
Now you are about to play in Oz over the weekend - how much are you looking forward to it?
Australia is one of favorite places in the world I always have the best time there the people are so friendly and it reminds me a lot like home.
You did the Destination Australia mix in 2002 with Hipp-E. If you had to choose another Destination other then OZ, where would you love to play?
Japan - need I say more!!!!
And finally what do you plan to get up to on your tour away from the decks?
I really want to make time to do some tourist things this time around it is such a beautiful country. I want to take in as much as possible...
