Rex Club will hold two more parties in celebration of its 25th birthday on June 1st and June 8th. Earlier this year, the Paris nightlife staple began celebrating a quarter-century in business with a series of special parties, including a Legends event with Kerri Chandler. The next instalment, however, is a Detroit-themed affair headlined by Sushitech signee Delano Smith. He'll be backed up by Sistrum head Patrice Scott, a live set from the mysterious Anonym and Frenchman Andrade. Legends Part 2 happens a week later, with an acid house theme. It'll be headlined by genre innovator and "Mystery Girl" producer DJ Pierre, along with a live performance from Phuture. Uzuri associate Lakuti and Deeply Rooted House founder DJ Deep are also billed. Tickets for the Detroit Generation event are available here, while you can grab them for the Legends Part 2 show here. ![]() The lineup for this year's edition of Nuits Sonores has been finalised. Running from May 7th through 12th, the Lyon-based event made it into our top festival picks for the month. The bill has now been completed, with the likes of Daphni, Pantha Du Prince, Motor City Drum Ensemble, DJ Harvey and Detroit deity Andrés joining previously announced names like Carl Cox and Seth Troxler. This year sees RA hosting a daytime stage over four days, kicking off on Wednesday with veteran French selector Laurent Garnier. On Thursday Benoit & Sergio and Ryan Crosson will join Troxler behind the decks, while Friday promises to be a techno-fest with Shifted, DVS1, Planetary Assault Systems and Ben Klock all locked in. We'll sign off on Saturday with a slightly mellower bill that features Andrés and Tale Of Us among others. ![]() Electric Rescue will release his debut full-length, Sonic Architecture, via John Digweed's Bedrock Records this June. The producer born Antoine Husson has carved out a spot at the center of French techno over the past decade. He's found a supporter in Laurent Garnier and a steady DJ outlet through his own Play parties, gigs across Europe and a Rex Club residency. This first album comes on the back of well over a dozen EPs for labels like Traum Schallplatten and Cocoon. Not surprisingly, Sonic Architecture spans the range of styles Husson is known for, from more functional dance-floor fare to his own brand of experimental electronica. Tracklist 01. The music magazine's first Paris party of the year is a UK-themed affair, taking place at La Machine du Moulin Rouge. Acid house and jungle pioneer A Guy Called Gerald will headline with a live set (which usually slants more towards house and techno these days). Addison Groove will support with his own live set, while Marcus Intalex will DJ under his techno-oriented Trevino moniker. 50 Weapons producer Benjamin Damage will also perform live. Skudge associate Swalk, Trax's Calcium, Release The Groove's J055 and the Sonotown DJs are all billed for opening duties. The Paris festival's eighth edition will again take over the city's Parc de La Villette. As in previous years, the programming spans dance music, hip-hop, indie rock and metal. The entertainment is spread across a number of different venues in the park, with select free outdoor events as well as ticketed shows. Electronic music highlights include TNGHT, DJ Harvey, Caribou's side project Daphni, Space Dimension Controller and Vatican Shadow. A Cómeme label night will boast Matias Aguayo, Alejandro Paz and others. UNO-associated rapper Mykki Blanco will perform live, as will The Flaming Lips, Swans, Unknown Mortal Orchestra and Michael Rother, who'll play the music of his former band Neu! Neurosis and Washington band The Melvins will make up Villette Sonique's metal quotient, with the latter holding a residency at festival venue Le Trebendo over the course of May. ![]() Concrete has invited Deeply Rooted House to curate a party on April 7th.
Since its launch in 2011, Paris afterparty Concrete has become one of the biggest entities in the city's clubbing scene, and was recently featured in our Real Scenes: Paris film. Now an all-day-and-evening affair, they've handed over the reins of their April 7th event to local imprint Deeply Rooted House. Label boss DJ Deep will headline alongside a selection of artists who have released on the label, including Berghain resident Ben Klock and Swedish producer Bleak. Frenchman Francois X and DPH discovery Marcelus, who did a memorable podcast for us two years ago, will also take to the decks on the banks of the River Seine. ![]() Details of a South African showcase at this year's Weather Festival in Paris have been revealed.
The afterhours event will serve as a 10th birthday celebration for Parisian club Djoon, which has long been bringing South African DJs to Europe. South African All Stars will kick off at 7 AM on Sunday, May 19th, at Port De La Rapée, the home of Weather festival organisers Concrete. Revered South African DJ Black Coffee—who featured prominently in our recent Real Scenes: Johannesburg documentary—will perform, as will fellow countrymen Culoe De Song and Da Capo. Body & Soul man Joe Claussell has been billed as the party's special guest, while other stages at the event will showcase a mix of local and international house talent, with Kerri Chandler, Theo Parrish and Floorplan, AKA Robert Hood, among those confirmed. Tickets for the 2013 Weather festival are available here on RA. ![]() Marvellous Island, a new Parisian electronic music festival, will make its debut this May. In the promoters' eyes, Paris was a major European capital lacking a major European electronic music festival. The text accompanying the festival announcement explains large-scale French festivals are usually held outside of Paris, and electronic music is often not the focus. "We strongly believe Paris also deserves [its] first festival at the edge of the evolution of this type of music," they write, and the lineup they've assembled certainly reflects a desire to stand toe-to-toe with the biggest events on the continent. The festival—to be held over five days at Le Chalet de la Porte Jaune, on actual island just outside Paris' city centre—is organized into a series of showcases from some of the biggest names on the circuit. A Crosstown Rebels "Rebel Rave Tour" stage featuring Art Department, Subb-an and label head Damian Lazarus heads up the first day, along with a Get Physical vs. Flying Circus stage headlined by M.A.N.D.Y. and a Guy Gerber live set. Highlights of the following days include a Hot Creations stage featuring Jamie Jones, a "Loco Dice & Friends" showcase with the man himself playing an extended set, Davide Squillace and Cassy playing for Circoloco and Pan-Pot heading up a lineup of Mobilee artists. Seth Troxler, dOP, Jacques Greene, Anthony Collins and Dan Ghenacia will also feature. Tickets for the festival are available here on RA. ![]() George Issakidis will release his debut solo album, Karezza, on Kill The DJ in May. As a solo artist, he's been dropping a mixed bag of techno, downtempo and house on a variety of labels, including Artefact, NoveMute and his own The Republic of Desire. Issakidis's forthcoming album will be the first time he's committed music to wax for Kill The DJ, the imprint founded by Parisian veterans Chloe and Ivan Smagghe. Karezza sees him stretch out across nine tracks, and features collaborations with Perc and Ed Banger regular Mickey Moonlight. Using two grand pianos and a drum set, the trio's work touches on modern classical, techno and krautrock influences.
