  • DJ Pierre will release a first volume of Acid Tracks remixes on his Afro Acid Plastic label in July. After 35 years in music, Nathaniel "DJ Pierre" Jones is looking back to the track that started it all, Phuture's "Acid Tracks," originally released on Trax Records in 1987. The Chicago house cut, which Jones made with Earl "Spanky" Smith—AKA DJ Spank Spank—and Herbert "Herb J" Jackson, is widely credited with kicking off the international obsession with the Roland TB-303's so-called "acid" sounds. This year, DJ Pierre will release 35 new versions of "Acid Tracks," with a new round of remixers announced every three weeks. Volume one includes versions from KiNK, Bloody Mary, Paco Osuna, Analog Kitchen and Beyun. Other announced artists include Carl Cox, Chris Liebing, Kerri Chandler, Dubfire, Nastia, Carl Craig, Luciano and Posthuman. Each instalment will be pressed up on coloured vinyl in an edition of 500. Listen to clips from the first volume.
