Vying for second place in the makeover stakes is Sankeys. Coming back bigger and better than last year, the club will host a full seven-day programme, inviting back the likes of VIVa Music and Diynamic to rub shoulders with newcomers Fuse and Flying Circus. Day and beach parties have made a comeback, with Ushuaia Tower and Sirocco Beach Club hosting free events from Louie Vega, tINI and more. Perhaps most significantly, though, there's been something of a power shift on the island. For the first time in recent memory, DJ exclusivity is far less of an issue, with Loco Dice, Jamie Jones, Carl Cox, Marco Carola and Richie Hawtin all playing at each other's events. For those aware of the island's history, Dice back at DC-10 is, to put it simply, a pretty big deal. From an audience perspective, there's rarely been so much choice.
As we head into the season, RA will be documenting every aspect of life on the White Isle via our Ibiza Weekly column. Run alongside our comprehensive Ibiza clubbing guide, there will be no better place to get your island fix.
There might not be a specific theme this season, but there's still been plenty of movement in the Cocoon camp. Loco Dice is no longer exclusive, playing three dates to last year's seven. To compensate, Luciano returns for the first time since 2009 with three shows, with Richie Hawtin, Dixon and Roman Flügel also onboard. Most significantly, Sven and his sidekick Ricardo are back playing 12 and seven sets respectively.
Subliminal @ Booom!
Erick Morillo transfers his long-running house night to the island's newest club.
Circoloco at DC-10
"Lifestyle" is this year's theme at the mythical Monday party. Quite what that means is not yet clear, but if it's the Circo Loco way of life they're trying to impart on their following, they needn't bother—everyone is well past hooked. While Seth Troxler, Martinez Brothers and the rest of their ever-expanding army of DJs will do most of the work, you can be sure there will be some surprises along the way too.
Colors @ Es Paradis
Not to be confused with the Scottish promoter, this trance night run by Finnish DJ Alex Kunnari returns to San Antonio for a second year.
Epica @ Pacha
With Chuckie, Bingo Players and Dada Life all appearing frequently throughout the season, Pacha offers a relatively intimate environment in which to experience these habitual stadium-dwellers.
A State Of Trance @ Privilege
With Tiësto swapping Ibiza for the arenas of Las Vegas this year, Armin van Buuren is the island's top trance DJ. After a successful first season at Privilege last summer, the Dutch superstar returns to the record-breaking nightclub.
Hypercolour @ Sankeys
With the likes of DJ Sneak, Skream and Boddika all confirmed, as well as label showcases from Hotflush, Aus Music and Craig Richard's The Nothing Special, Jamie Russell and Alex Jones could be the surprise package this summer. It won't be easy going up against Circo Loco and Cocoon, but these are the rites of passage all island freshmen have to go through.
Cafe OlÈ @ Space
Having moved from Saturday to Monday, and with Wally Lopez off to Ushuaia, it's been left to Roger Sanchez to ensure change is for the better at Space's gay-friendly fiesta.
DFTD @ Ushuaia Tower
DFTD is the events-arm of a new Defected-run outfit, which also includes a record label. The daytime party is free and will aim to "showcase eclectic new talent and work closely with our friends at associated labels," according to head honcho Simon Dunmore. Expect takeovers from Cecille, Osunlade and Dennis Ferrer's Objektivity label.
F**k Me I'm Famous @ Ushuaia
David Guetta takes his sound to a daytime and outdoor audience.
This raucous bass music affair is given a twist this year, with Dutch superstar Afrojack bringing his high-octane sound to seven dates. Don't worry though, old favourites Chase & Status, Nero, Sub Focus and Skrillex still make up the bulk of the parties.
Water Party 80s & 90s @ Es Paradis
The island's most popular water party, with a nostalgic twist.
Flower Power @ Pacha
One of Ibiza's most iconic parties will run weekly this year. Expect a charged atmosphere, fancy dress frolics and a hippie vibe, all set to a backdrop of classic rock and pop.
Get Physical @ Privilege (Vista Club)
M.A.N.D.Y. have a strong presence on the island this year, and nowhere will they be more visible than at their first label residency. Booka Shade, Steve Bug and Mr C will all drop by this summer, with Freerange, Real Tone and Studio 80 taking over the smaller Vista Blue space.
Face Of Ibiza @ Privilege
Androgynous icon Baby Marcelo teams up with DJ Oliver for this full-frontal extravaganza.
Diynamic Neon @ Sankeys
A firm-favourite on the island in 2012, this colourful affair helped put Sankeys well and truly on the map. As a result, Solomun et al. resume their residency, offering punters a weekly taste of this burgeoning group of artists. Keeping things almost strictly in-house, David August, H.O.S.H and Kollektiv Turmstrasse all feature.
Carl Cox @ Space
The superstar DJ celebrates a dozen years at Space with three months of chock-a-block lineups. Carl Craig, Laurent Garnier, DJ Sneak and Masters At Work all bring decades of experience to the booth. Meanwhile, Eats Everything, Paco Osuna and Seth Troxler will all make their debuts, with Marco Carola dropping by for a rare Space outing. As is now custom, Loco Dice returns for his annual closing party performance.
Luciano & Friends @ Ushuaia
Luciano will be back at the Ushuaia complex this year, hosting six festival-like shows starting in late June. The Cadenza boss is arguably at his best when spinning outdoors, so prepare for plenty more memorable sunset moments.
Easily the most interesting of all the gay/gay-friendly parties in Ibiza. Promoted by the legendary Brasilio, there is a different theme each week and a house soundtrack on the Terrace. The Main Room is more commercial and it all ends with the Espuma Foam Party.
Paradise @ DC-10
After a rammed debut in 2012, Jamie Jones and his Hot Creations crew swap Thursdays for Wednesdays, avoiding big-name clashes with Richie Hawtin and Loco Dice. Not only that, but the latter two will both play Paradise for the first time, marking Dice's return to DC-10 after a seven-year hiatus. Four Tet, Joy Orbison and Michael Mayer are further examples of the group's intriguing booking policy, with support coming from the usual carousel of names.
Ibiza Rocks After Party @ Es Paradis
The name says it all. If you've been to Ibiza Rocks for the gig, you get free entrance to Es Paradis.
Channel Zoo @ Gala Night
If you fancy something a little quirky and off the beaten track, but with the same dedication to quality music found elsewhere on the island, then look no further than this popular daytime party. Guests, who ranged from Moodymann to Pearson Sound in 2012, will be kept secret until the very last minute.
Ibiza Rocks @ Ibiza Rocks Hotel
Still one of the biggest brands on the island, Ibiza Rocks will bring their eclectic mix of high-profile headliners to the Hotel stage, including Chase & Status, Dizzee Rascal and Foals. There's also the small matter of a performance from Chic feat. Nile Rodgers in September.
Wisdom Of The Glove @ Pacha
Quite possibly the most highly-anticipated of all the debutants on the island, if only for its oddball concept. Guy Gerber is the proprietor of the mystical mitt, and one of a handful of DJs for whom 2013 will prove a pivotal season. Promising magicians, fortune-telling machines and an “increasingly uncomfortable atmosphere” as the summer progresses, the likes of Cajmere, Four Tet and Nicolas Jaar will all get to play a part in this party's eerie evolution.
20th Anniversary Parties @ Privilege
The superclub will run a series of events to celebrate two decades in the game.
Next Wave @ Privilege (Vista Club)
With Thomas Melchior, Rhadoo and Fumiya Tanaka booked for the opening, and Vera, Tobi Neumann and Valentino Kanzyani all confirmed for later in the season, the party promises to regularly deliver decent music and knowledgeable crowds.
Fuse @ Sankeys
Following a string of successful parties last year, Enzo Siragusa and his East London crew return for their debut residency. It's all about the homegrown talent here, and you could well find yourself singing the praises of Seb Zito and Rich Nxt above some of the island's superstar performers. Also don't be surprised if members of the Desolat camp put in regular appearances.
tINI & the gang @ Sirocco Beach Club
Desolat's first-lady returns to Playa d'en Bossa bigger and better this year, with an army of talent booked and raring to go. And don't worry: it's still absolutely free. Martin Buttrich, Bill Patrick and Mountain People are among the names, with a selection of "very special guests" set to make an appearance.
Ibiza Calling @ Space
Moving from Monday nights to replace Be, Ibiza Calling promises "good music, good atmosphere, and a fun, intimate crowd." Simple.
Be Crazy @ Ushuaia Tower
Island inhabitant Jean Claude Ades launches his own night, serving up sets from the likes of Radio Slave, M.A.N.D.Y. and Tiefschwarz to the hotel's Wednesday evening throng.
Departures @ Ushuaia
Swedish House Mafia might be a thing of the past, but this new venture from former members Axwell and Sebastian Ingrossso means there are still plenty of opportunities to revel in their über-popular brand of dance music.
One of the busiest and longest-serving Ibiza parties, the global brand welcomes Above & Beyond, Calvin Harris and, of course, Paul Van Dyk to the fold this year.
Circus @ Booom!
After years of dedication to the cause, Yousef has secured his first residency on the island. If the parties in his hometown of Liverpool are anything to go by, expect top-tier names such as Laurent Garnier, Dubfire and Steve Lawler.
Manimalz/The Arena @ Vista Club
Manimalz will bring a jungle theme to Privilege's second room for three parties in June, hosting the likes of Betoko, Climbers and Waifs & Strays. The Arena will pick up the mantle from July through September, with DJ Sneak, Doc Martin and Josh Wink all confirmed.
Dirtybird @ Sankeys
Claude VonStroke has been a presence on the island for several years now, making his group of bass-heads an obvious choice for a Sankeys residency. The boss will play all but one of the 12 shows, supported by a selection of label members and affiliates. The party provides an opportunity to catch ascending stars Julio Bashmore and Eats Everything in an intimate environment.
ENTER. @ Space
Hawtin and co. are definitely returning to Space this year. Other than that, we've heard next to nothing. This silence hopefully means big plans. With the Minus roster in tow and a healthy volume of high-profile guests, ENTER should once again prove to be one of the island's most popular affairs.
F**k Me I'm Famous @ Pacha
Despite a clean out at Pacha for 2013, this was one party that was never going anywhere. Whether you're a fan or not, it's hard to argue with the French superstar's pulling power.
NervoNation @ Ushuaia Tower
Jumped-up house and electro from the Australian twins.
Used + Abused @ Ushuaia
While it was only ever a matter of time before Loco Dice went solo, this is still arguably the most significant addition to the Ibiza landscape this year. Nightmares On Wax, Carl Cox and Jamie Jones are among the most enticing bookings, while a daytime slot leaves the main players with plenty of scope for late-night guest spots around the island.
Marco Carola will helm Friday nights once again, bringing a much housier flavour to the Main Room and Terrace this year. Jamie Jones, DJ Sneak and The Martinez Brothers are such examples, while there will still be plenty of techno-focussed outings for Joseph Capriati and Marc Antona. Carl Cox will even pop in for a rare Amnesia gig.
Water Party @ Es Paradis
Think the '80s & '90s party on Tuesday nights, but with more contemporary sounds.
We Are Rockstars! @ Ibiza Rocks Hotel
...is the paradoxical name for the Friday party at the Ibiza Rocks Hotel, which in fact focuses on DJs and not rock stars. Zane Lowe, Doorly and Example will all hold residencies, and London's Rinse FM will stage four takeovers across the season.
Insane @ Pacha
The ever-present figure of John Digweed joins forces with Fritz Kalkbrenner as part of Pacha's new-look programme. Splitting resident duties, you can expect a potent mix of sounds and styles in the months to come, from back-to-back-to-back sets courtesy of DJ Sneak, Mark Farina and Derrick Carter, to Steve Lawler and fabric mainstay Terry Francis.
SuperMartxe @ Privilege
The self-proclaimed "best party in the world," this remains Privilege's busiest event by a country mile. Providing mass-market entertainment to a predominantly Spanish crowd, it's worth checking out just to see the mammoth club in all its glory.
Flying Circus @ Sankeys
Audiofly launch their first residency on the island. Many view Fridays as the toughest night of the week, but the likes of Carl Craig, Mathew Jonson and Martin Buttrich should help overcome any early teething problems.
Clandestin @ Space
Felix Da Housecat is the lynchpin of this new in-house event. TEED, Tiga and Kraak & Smaak are just some of the names being bandied about, so expect a party with plenty of gusto.
Sunset Ritual @ Ushuaia Tower
Born at the Blue Marlin beach club back in 2010, this collaboration between Louie Vega and Anané has its roots on the island. Pushing a sound tailored to a life of sun, sea and sand, this might just be the pick of the bunch at Ushuaia Tower this year.
Le Grand Bazaar @ Ushuaia
Moving from Pacha to Ushuaia, and from night to day, Pete Tong thought he might as well complete the makeover with a brand new name. As ever, the Radio 1 jock will spin his malleable brand of dance music alongside a varied selection of artists, from Fatboy Slim and Carl Cox to Hot Natured, who will perform their live show for the first time in Ibiza. Oh, and Damien Hirst is designing the artwork.
Extremely high-octane and a little bit mad. Still curious? This promo video should clue you in.
Defected In The House @ Booom!
After eight fruitful years, Simon Dunmore and the crew end their love affair with Pacha. Eyebrows have been raised recently over their commitment to less mainstream sounds, but with newcomers Eats Everything, Skream and Guti joining veterans Dennis Ferrer, Kenny Dope and Derrick Carter, perhaps this is the summer Defected silence their critics.
August Saturday showcases @ DC-10
Last year saw the likes of Visionquest, Life & Death and Better Lost Than Stupid (Tanzmann, Buttrich and Squillace) host one of these August-only events. The latter return this summer, with fellow trio Apollonia also scheduled in for a weekend appearance at the iconic club.
Hed Kandi @ Es Paradis
Disco and vocal house in the botanical garden club Es Paradis.
Zoo Project @ Gala Night
It'll be business as usual for this vibrant, fancy-dressed themed party, as Zoo Project continue their quest to showcase top-quality sounds in a distinctive location. Look out for some of the live performances, with headline shows from Jay Shepheard, Virgo Four and Mr G.
Elrow @ Privilege
Offering an alternative to the commercial sounds championed by Matinee and Cafe Olé, this whacky fun-fest returns to the Vista Club for another season of no-holds-barred partying. Nic Fanciulli, Joris Voorn and Paco Osuna have all been confirmed, but it's Laurent Garnier's DJ set in late June that is one of the season's must-sees.
Pure Pacha @ Pacha
Commercial house sounds from this long-running favourite. Armand Van Helden, Martin Solveig and Bob Sinclair will all play regularly.
Carnival Cities @ Sankeys
Sankeys' in-house venture goes global this summer, inviting a slew of international labels and parties to host Saturday nights at the club, including Brazil's D-Edge, LA's Culprit and longtime-affiliates Bugged Out! Venue residents Finnebassen and William Kouam Djoko offer season-wide support from behind the decks.
Art of Dark @ Sirocco Beach Club
Expanding their operation to Ibiza, the London promoters will run a free, weekly party from 4 PM through midnight. Expect a lively atmosphere and sets from some of the strongest up-and-coming DJs on the island, including Tuccillo, Gtronic and Circo Loco's Tato.
Kehakuma @ Space
Celebrating five years in the game this year, the Kehakuma crew take control of the difficult Saturday night slot at Space. Bringing the likes of Fred P, Levon Vincent and Studio Barnhus to the island this summer, they remain pretty much the only place in Ibiza to hear deeper house sounds.
Wally Lopez/WE Party @ Ushuaia Tower
Hopping over the road, Wally Lopez leaves Space to curate his own event at Ushuaia. Starting in July, he will alternate with Spanish darling Manuel De Diego and his globetrotting, gay-friendly WE Party outfit.
ANTS @ Ushuaia
A ubiquitous and bizarre ad campaign has made this new daytime party difficult to ignore. Music-wise, expect big room house and techno, with the likes of Deetron, Radio Slave, George Fitzgerald and Lee Curtiss playing in the coming months.
Should you miss it at La Troya, this is another opportunity to hit the foam party at Amnesia in the Main Room. On the Terrace, resident Brian Cross welcomes a cast of celebrated Spanish pop acts.
Vagabundos @ Booom!
Luciano and his vagrant mob make the switch from Pacha to Booom!. The Cadenza boss will be a permanent fixture across the season, supported by various combinations of the label's family and friends.
Ferry Corsten presents Full On @ Eden
Full-throttle beats from the trance megastar.
Solomun +1 @ Pacha
2013 could be Solomun's year. Taking up his first solo residency, each week he will invite one of his many esteemed DJ friends to join him behind the decks, promising some mouth-watering individual and back-to-back performances. With Âme, DJ Koze and Tensnake all in the pipeline, it's all eyes on the Diynamic boss this summer.
Don't Let Daddy Know @ Privilege
One of the stranger party names you'll come across, even by Ibiza standards. After a rowdy debut in 2012, it's back promising live action from some large-scale electro house, hip-hop and dusbtep names.
VIVa Warriors @ Sankeys
Cornerstones of Sankeys' new-look programme, Steve Lawler and his talented troupe return for a second year, shifting to the Sunday night slot. Steve Bug, Robert Dietz and Guti might promise great guest performances, but really these parties are all about Lawler and the Warriors. Keep an especially close eye on Darius Syrossian and Detlef.
We Love... @ Space
Another season, another diverse and action-packed programme. Live appearances from Disclosure, Underworld and Fatboy Slim may steal the headlines, but it's the flurry of back-to-back sets, including Joy Orbison vs. Ben UFO and Mathew Jonson vs. Minilogue, that have us really salivating. And don't pass up the opportunity to see Matt "Coldcut" Black perform his 25 Years Of Solid Steel show, or Jimmy Edgar and Machinedrum as JETS, or We Love... favourites Dixon, Âme and Henrik Schwarz... This could go on for hours.
Sasha @ Ushuaia Tower
The UK DJ will continue his close relationship with Ushuaia, hoping to recapture the vibe from some of the club's original beach parties with this free daytime event. Expect a selection of friends and collaborators to join Sasha, as well as a weekly secret guest.
Avicii @ Ushuaia
The Swedish phenomenon will take up residency for the second summer in a row.
