  • With Club Transmediale quickly approaching, anticipation is high for Wolfgang Voigt's first live performance in more than a decade at the theater Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz. For the event, the Cologne-based co-founder of Kompakt will resurrect material from his releases as Gas spanning 1995-2000 with Petra Hollenbach's accompanying video projections, which are based on Voigt's own nature-centric photography. This unique performance follows last year's box set in which Kompakt compiled all four out-of-print Gas albums, originally put out by the influential and now defunct Mille Plateaux. His ambient productions seem to be informed as much by classical (and even new age music) as by techno, and therefore perfectly suit the experimental inclinations of the historic Volksbühne. Gas represents only a fraction of what Voigt is known for: Profan, the label he founded in 1993, issued music from a variety of names like Mike Ink and Studio 1 (most but not all of which were his own aliases). As Profan branched out into Auftrieb and most recently the powerhouse Kompakt, Voigt has continued to release a spectrum of electronic music on these labels, as well as on others such as Warp Records and Force Inc.
