Mancunian deep house producer Trus'me is set to return to Australia next month, playing dates in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Canberra.
Since his last Australian visit in mid-2009, Trus'me has released In the Red, a full-length that enlisted the likes of Amp Fiddler and Dam-Funk as collaborators, and frequently crossed over into disco and funk territory. Additionally, 2009 saw the debut of the Croatia's Disco3K festival, an event helmed by the Prime Numbers boss himself. Since then, the Englishman has enjoyed an extensive touring schedule, visiting Japan, the US, and Europe several times.
We caught up with Trus'me via email last week, where he revealed the dates for Disco3K 2010, his desire to bring the festival to Australia and the reactions to his sophomore LP.You toured Australia for the first time mid-last year. How were the shows?
To be honest, this time I have more control, so I’m really looking forward to this tour. Real music to be played to real people. You can’t ask for more than that. I’m looking to run a D3K festival at some point on your sunny Isle, so you can say that I’m ready to devote some time to the Australian electronic music scene. So, expect to see a lot more of Trus’me and Prime Numbers artists in the near future.
Since we last heard from you, you've released your second LP, In the Red. How has life been since its release?
Well, knowing what you’re doing tour-wise all the way up to May is strange for a DJ. Life is good right now. I’m seeing plenty of the world and meeting loads of great new people. I’m documenting it all with my trusty Nikon FM2, and looking to print a journal later in the year with the photos I collect – a bird’s eye view of what being Trus’me entails. The 2nd LP has been picked up by a broader audience, due to diverse collaborations with the likes of Amp Fiddler to Dam Funk.
How does the process differ when producing and releasing a follow-up LP, compared to a debut full-length?
I tried not to think about how to better
Working Nights. Instead, I looked at improving as a producer and challenging myself to learn new techniques through working with live musicians, to arranging vocals and harmonies. Therefore, you should hopefully not imitate your opening work but progress, as a sophomore should do.
The inaugural Disco3000 festival also went ahead since we last spoke. Will we be seeing another one in the future?
The future D3K Croatia will take place from August 20th-22nd 2010. A heap of electronic names are ready to be confirmed come February, where tickets and information will be available from
The initial festival was a very close family affair, bringing together friends and colleagues from all over Europe and beyond. There is nothing quite like similar-minded people coming together for one shared loved. Those who attended in 2009 shared something quite special, and are desperate for the next installment.
Finally, how have your sets been sounding lately? Can Australians expect to hear any new Prime Numbers material?
I’m a man of many tastes, which is sometimes hard for the electronic world to understand. This hunger for all music that is good can be seen in my style of play. I delve into genres I feel fits the mood and style of the club, while always keeping always a strong focus on the floor and energy in the room. I have more Prime Number releases to shake a stick at, so yes, you will hear plenty of upfront material from the camp. Tickets to Trus'me's Sydney appearance are available to purchase directly from RA Tickets.
