- The next full-length by Rod Modell and Steven Hitchell will see release this June.
Rod Modell and Steven Hitchell will release Liumun, their second album as DeepChord presents Echospace, this June on Modern Love.
The new record is described as sounding more "destroyed" and "unsettling" than its predecessor, at times simulating the "uniquely ambiguous euphoria/narcosis that comes with extended sleep deprivation." It comes three years after The Coldest Season, the duo's acclaimed album from 2007. Since then, Modell and Hitchell have been involved in a number of side projects, building their own echospace [detroit] imprint and recording under pseudonyms like Intrusion and cv313. Rod Modell and Stephen Hitchell used sounds harvested from their travels to Japan as source material for the new record, and, as such, the first pressing of Liumin will also include a bonus disc with 80 minutes of reduced atmospherics and field recordings. Reached for comment via e-mail, Hitchell told RA that "this album is a sonic travelogue to us, with most of the material being culled from live performances and each song documenting a specific show and location we played."
