  • Dave Smith's budget analog synth, Mopho, has been released in a new keyboard version. The Mopho Keyboard is a full-featured monophonic synth, that, much like its little brother, features a 100% analog signal path. 32 full-sized, semi-weighted keys (with velocity and aftertouch) are housed within its compact frame; but perhaps the most interest will be tied up in its price point: a very reasonable $800. Control-wise, the Mopho Keyboard sports 25 soft-touch knobs and 20 switches, which can be used to tweak its 384 preset sounds or to build your own. The same two oscillator, two sub-octave generators sound architecture will fuel the new keyboard incarnation, feeding into the same Curtis low-pass filter (2- or 4-pole). Also featured is three 5-stage envelope generators, 4 LFOs, real analog VCAs, an arpeggiator, a gated 16 x 4 step sequencer and the ability to process external audio. Owners of Dave Smith's Tetra may also be interested to learn that the unit can be used to expand Mopho's polyphony via a poly chain output. Dave Smith Instruments' Mopho Keyboard is available now with a suggested retail price of $799.
