  • Ghostly International have announced details for a new collector's item set to go on sale tomorrow: a small black obelisk, or "totem," that gives the owner online access to Matthew Dear's upcoming album, Black City. Ghostly describes the totem as "an abstract key to an unknown door" that is "both a sculptural representation of the themes explored in Black City and a symbolic conduit to the music itself." More specifically, it's a small oblong box that kind of resembles a sky-scraper, inscribed with the letters MDBC and a unique "alphanumeric suffix" that provides access to a private page on www.matthewdear.com where Black City can be streamed or downloaded. The totem was designed by Constantin and Laurene Boym of Boym Partners, a New York-based outfit that won the 2009 National Design Award for Product Design. It can be had exclusively through the Ghostly Store starting this Tuesday to the tune of $125. Tracklist 01. Honey 02. I Can't Feel 03. Little People (Black City) 04. Slowdance 05. Soil to Seed 06. You Put a Smell on Me 07. Shortwave 08. Monkey 09. More Sugery 10. Gem Ghostly International will release the totem on August 3rd, 2010.
